SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW TIPS

There are few steps to follow to provide a successful interview:

1.      Find information on the employer, hiring manager, job opportunity

If you want to obtain a good interview, you need to conduct research to understand the background of the company, the employer and all the job opportunities that they offer. This information will assist you on how to answer questions at the interview.

2.      Review common interview question and prepare responses

You should definitely review past interview questions and that could be found on the internet through a simple Goggle search. Prepare yourself to be reactive and respond to all the questions with confidence.

(Remember that you don’t have to memorize the answers but it will help stimulate you to create your own)

3.      Dress for Success

Based on your research you should get a sense of the culture of the company and how the employees typically dress. If you are unsure of the dress code, the best thing to do is to dress business professional. Also, it is important to not wear excessive jewelry and to stay away from using a strong smelling perfume.

4.      Ask insightful questions and then close the deal

Put yourself in a good spot by asking two or three questions that are related to the job opportunity, this will help the hiring manager understand that you are really interested in the position.

5.      Thank the interviewer in person and by email

As you know common courtesy is a good factor and thanking the interviewer, at the end of the interview, is a good start. Finalize it with writing an email within 24 to 48 hours of the interview. This would show that you are persistent and shows that you are willing to give yourself for the job.

Will You Be Dressed for Success Tomorrow?

The CUNY Big Apple Fair is tomorrow!  Read on for tips on how to dress for success!

“Dress for immediate credibility and success will follow”

                                                                                                 -Sandy Dumont

In this blog, you will find some tips about how to properly dress when you’re going for an interview, a meeting or an event that requires you to be dressed in a formal way. It is very important to respect these simple, yet very effective, rules employers, as well as professionals in general, pay attention to the way new candidates present themselves. Of course, it’s very important to be prepared for the interview, but showing up dressed appropriately will boost your chances on leaving a good impression.

·        Polished shoes, pressed shirts and well-fitted pants always.  At this point, some of you are thinking, "Why do I have to tuck in my shirt?" But when your clothes are pressed, buttoned down and well-fitted, you convey that you are a person who pays attention to the details and are professional

·        Avoid tight and see-through clothing and refrain from showing too much skin. Don’t give your interviewer the opportunity to question whether you will take the job seriously or behave in a professional manner if you’re hired

  • Avoid jeans and any bedazzled clothing: no matter how you dress them up, jeans are casual. Wearing them to an interview is simply improper and will create the wrong impression

  • Ladies, if wearing a skirt, wear nylons: be sure to pack an emergency pair of nylons in your purse

  • Avoid over-accessorizing: keep jewelry to a minimum and wear a plain, rather than a decorative belt

  • No visible tattoos, facial piercings or more than one ear-piercing: why you may argue that tattoos and piercings are part of who you are, showing them during an interview is distracting. Take piercings out or cover up tattoos, so that your interviewer can focus instead on why you are the perfect match for the company

·       Closed-toe heels for women (all seasons) and dress shoes for man: avoid platform heels, sneakers or dirty shoes
  • Wear matching shoes and belt: this simple rule helps you to look professional and put together
