Interviewing

We all know that to get a good job in today's economy is not simple, but in most cases are really competitive. Hence in order to get a job, you need to concentrate and do the the best of your ability to Ace an interview. Although the pressure is on you and on your skills, but the interviewer is also has numerous amount pressure on him/her - interviewer has a small amount of time in his/her hands to see that indeed you are the right candidate for the job.

1.) What are some typical interview questions and good responses?

One of the most obvious question: Can you do the job?
  • First of all it is important to know that though this question may sound easy, but it is more complex than you may think. Every interviewer tries to find your skills that are required to have in order to do the job, so it is important to bring relevant skills to the job that you are applying for. The answer should be yes, and then highlight your skills, your similar previous job experience, and focus on the questions.

      Do you know the company?
  • There so many businesses that are not just simply out there to make profits, but also they are out there to make a difference in the market. Interviewers are looking for people who not just simply try to get the job, but also know the core values, missions, and impact of the company. For instance, recently I saw a video of how people applying to jobs at Facebook, Yahoo, and other companies like those. If you do the research, you will find that to a good team player is important, but a deeper research of what Facebook may represent in our society is more important. For example, Facebook is committed to provide all day access to internet, help to keep connected, and share some of our life with friends. What is the best way to prove that you would be a really useful part of the Facebook community? What you simply have to do is to tell your interviewer that while you did the research about the company, you find important that Facebook is committed to provide access to internet all over the world.
2.) What are the different types of interviews?
  • There are face-to-face interviews, multiple interviews, candidate group interviews, and panel interviews.

3.) What are some "Dos" and "Don'ts"?
  • Be there the job interview before 10-15 minutes, because that also gives you some time to go over things that you feel is crucially important.
  • Know that type of interview that you will encounter with.
  • Dress for success: tie, clean shoes, tie, etc.
  • Don't chew gum.
  • Don't make jokes, because you never know whose does and does not like it.
  • Don't say negative things about your previous job.

Types of Interviews

Group Interview: Whenever you go to an interview and you end up in a group interview, it's usually not the manager that's doing the hiring it's sometimes a recruiter letting a manager know which candidate is a fit for employment.

One on One Interview: This is the real deal. This is usually the actual interview with the manager. This is the time where you've got to bring out your inner pride and show the manager what you're worth to his corporation.

Phone Interview: Before you get called to an actual interview sometimes you may receive an interview on the phone. This is usually done so that the manager may get in touch with you.

Interview

Interviews are one of the toughest challenges we have to go through in our life, but even the hardest fights have solutions. There are many different types of interviews, of the many there are 6 major types of interviews:

Structured Interview: Formal and organized, starts easily but becomes harder as time passes.

Unstructured Interview: Open ended questions, the interviewer relies on you, and what you have to say about yourself.

Stress Interview: Most likely for higher positions, candidates are put in positions where they are tested for how they'd work under pressure.

Behavioral Interview: Focuses on your prior experience, candidates are asked about how they handled certain situations in the past.

Problem Solving or Case Interview: Candidate will be tested on communication and analytical skills, and will be asked to solve problems.

Panel Interview: A bunch of staff members will be gathered to ask a candidate questions at once.

In order, to succeed, we must show our desire for success, and how far the desire can take us. During an interview, we are all often hit with anxiety, we become very mindful of what we say. Every word of ours is put under scrutiny by our interviewer.  Hence to solve this particular problem, there are certain tips and tricks we can use and be assured that we've left an impact on the interviewer.

For one we have to have a certain understand of what we are going into. Dress appropriately for the interview; do not under dress (yoga pants, sneakers, etc.) or over dress (party outfits, excessive jewelry, etc.).  Another good idea would be to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes early before the scheduled time of the interview. Your handshake should be firm once you greet your interviewer, and maintain eye contact. Plan ahead of what you will be speaking of. If we go to an interview without any sort of preparation, there's a chance the person who is interviewing us will know. Its important to not be blindsided, especially if the said job holds a certain importance in your life.

Most questions asked during an interview most likely have to do with who you are and what have you achieved in life from prior experience. During the beginning of an interview you will be asked to introduce yourself. Often this question is worded as "Tell me about yourself". Do not make it too personal, the interviewee is not their to listen to your life story. Keep it sufficient and to the point, you want to focus on your prior work experience, as well as where you're in the world work wise. Speak of your highest achievements, and make sure to emphasize on your skills and what your strong points are.

Another widely asked question is "Why do you want to work here?" A good response would be as a result of research. Research the job you're applying for before you go in. You want to know what they are asking for. Make your response complimentary as well as assure them of how this job will give you experience into a field you're headed in, or speak of what you like about the company and what motivated you to apply. For instance if you're headed into a medical field, and are applying at a gynecologists office, speak to your hiring manager of how you want to experience life in the medical field and see what you will be going into before you start your career completely. Speak of getting a head start.

Most interviews will come to an end with the infamous question " Do you have any questions?" A most likely response to this question would be "no", a highly expected answer as well as the worst response. You want to stand out from everyone else whose applying for the job. Ask about the job, ask about what you can do for the job, ask if theirs any concerns regarding your resume or the interview. Do not focus your questions on yourself and what you can get from the job, or questions regarding benefits.

The Advantages of A Resume

It is essential that people understand the importance of their resume. Your resume is your first impression to an employer, it's almost like your advertisement. It has been said that when looking at resumes, employers look for every reason not to hire someone. I know that might sound a little backwards, but it's true. Employers look at so many resumes everyday it's as if they narrow it down by process of elimination. Now with knowing this information you want to make sure your resume is a few things.

First, you want to make sure your resume has all correct spelling and usage of grammar.  Second, you want to make sure your resume is organized and clear to understand. You want to make sure that your sections are in bold. Such as education, experience, skills, etc. Therefore, it is easy for the employer to easily locate the information they're looking for.

Third, you want to make sure your resume is targeted towards the job that you are applying for. For example, if you're applying for a job in the medical field you don't want to send in a resume listing all retail jobs. You should list your job experiences that have some relation to the medical field.

When applying to jobs in a field that you don't have any experience in, I believe it is important to attend some type of training or internship. Not too many employers hire people who don't have any experience in the job. That is where internships come in handy. According to Derrick Dortch in his article "A Complete Guide to Internships, "An internship is a structured learning experience in a work setting that gives a student the opportunity to learn about a career interest and gain valuable knowledge and experience in a particular field."

Lastly, when doing your resume one thing you should never do is lie. There have been many cases where employers have called some people's old employers and found out they weren't working there for as long as they said they were. Or even better, they've never worked there at all.

If there is anything you would feel iffy about on your resume then simply don't put it. Or if you're fortunate enough to receive an interview, simply explain whatever it is to the employer at the interview.

In conclusion, I hope my blog was helpful to you and I wish you the best of luck on your journey of finding the career that fits you!

Maybe I'll try this.

Networking is a social skill everyone must have. It's a process where you meet different people and showcase who you are. There are many forms of networking, some people use social media others use jobs they have and network with people they meet at their job. I believe social media can also be a tool to networking with others as well.

Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are just a few ways you can network with your friends or coworkers. Majority of my friends are on my social media page, they follow what I do on a daily basis and see my likes and dislikes.

How I network is really easy, I worked for a catering company and the events we used to do varied from hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and legal events. I used my social skills to open doors for myself and really talked my way into the business that I served for.

Networking is all about connections, making them and keeping them. How to make a connection with someone is:

1. Give the person your information.
2. Make sure your personality shines.
3. Make sure you get the person whom you are speaking with information as well.
4. Be professional at all times.

Quick tips: Dos and Don'ts of writing a resume

Here are some tips to write a resume that will help boost your chance of getting whatever job you go after:

  • Tip #1: BE HONEST! Don't write on your resume that you speak Spanish fluently if the only phrase you know is Buenas Dias. If you lie on the resume, your potential job may find out and it can be grounds for completely dismissing you. Also, if you are willing to lie on your resume, the company might think you won't be an honest employee.
  • Tip #2: Customize your resume to whatever job and position you're going for. If you're applying to Burger King, list any experiences you have working in the food industry or whatever skills you have being as a cashier. If you're applying to an office position, list any experience you have working with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, how many words your can type per minute, etc.
  • Tip #3: DON'T add any personal information! There's no need to add your birth date, social security, height, weight, or the fact you like to take long walks on the beach. It's not necessary, plus leaving out this information will ensure that they don't discriminate against you based on your personal info at a glance.
  • Tip #4: Proofread your resume. Go over your resume to make sure there are no typos. Ask someone else to go over it as well to make sure everything is right.
