Career Development: How to Stay Productive during Spring Break

It's Spring Break and maybe you're not traveling or partying away. Well it's actually a good time to think about taking steps towards your future career.



In the current educational lifestyle journey of students, you’re crucially looking for yourselves. There are a variety of students who envision themselves in the college setting yet they may feel that their personal aspirations are stuck trying complete specific coursework in order to earn a degree. When a student is learning to develop a clear sense of their personal aspirations and how to achieve them, that’s when gaining exposure to college and career readiness opportunities and pathways helps start an initiative in one’s self. Nevertheless, the question individual students ask themselves is: what options does my school have to help me explore my career pathway and what steps they need to take to gain exposure among their career interests. There are many steps to becoming well equipped in the college experience when you’re uncertain about your path. For instance, wanting to secure a job/internship, manage academic coursework, hone career readiness skill sets.

 

The first thing that comes to mind is drawing out the expectations to draw students to obtain career competencies skills in relation to career services. Below you will find current tips/suggestions to increase student confidence in participating in career resources.

 

  1. Reaching out to the Career & Development office located in C-102 is the foundation for encouraging students a way to communicate an understanding of the process of  career decision making and career development.
  2. Developing skill competencies while becoming comfortable with critical thinking and communication to engage students in exploring career interests to prepare students for the work field.
  3. Working with career advisors to identify career goals and aspirations that fit their academic program in relation to self-perception.
  4. Exploring accessible learning resources provided by the Career Development office: assessments, workshops, information sessions, job fairs throughout the year, resume review, mock interviews, internships in guidance to ensure students are invested and well aligned to learn how to prioritize college and career strategies.

 

All these examples demonstrate that although this framework of career services to navigate college can become confusing when learning how to implement these strategies, this is to ensure that students aren’t alone and there is a broad range of tools that are designed to target those meaningful goals with the support of college and career readiness.       For it is important to remember that the career service office and advisors are resources to help students make informed decisions for the mapping out their career pathway based on their interest, skill development, and academic assessment. As built by the confidence of students to get involved with leading opportunities and events provided.
