Guide to Improving Studying Abilities

Studying can be so tiresome, especially with exams looming or with assignments piling up. But with the right strategies, you can make your study sessions more effective and less stressful. Whether you are preparing for a big exam or just trying to stay on top of daily assignments. Here are some study tips to help you stay focused, organized and motivated.

Tips For Improving Studying Abilities

  • Set Specific Goals: Prior to starting a study session, make your mind clear about what you will do. Break up large topics into small areas and study each of them separately. Focusing on targets keeps one concentrated and motivated.

  • Create a study plan: Reading or studying at night before an exam is not generally helpful. Plan your study sessions in advance. Write them in a planner or electronic calendar, just like you are scheduling important appointments that you cannot reschedule.

  • Utilize Active Learning Techniques: Don't read your notes or book passively. Engage with material by summarizing what you read in your own words, by explaining it to somebody else, or by creating mind maps or flashcards.

  • Find Your Perfect Study Area: We all prefer our own ideal study spot. Some prefer absolute silence; some prefer some background sound. Experiment and find what works best for you, but in an area that is not too distracting.

  • Take Frequent Breaks: Your brain only has so long of focus before it will need to unwind. Apply the Pomodoro Technique: study material for 25 minutes, then break for 5 minutes. Complete four cycles, then take a longer break (15–30 minutes).

  • Stay Organized: Organize your study notes, textbooks, and study papers. A disorganized study space can make you have a disorganized mind. Use folders, color notes, and clean labeling so that all your study materials can easily stay organized.

  • Being Healthy: The brain performs better with good nutrition, exercise, and sleep. All nighters are heroic, perhaps, but an adequately rested brain learns better and remembers better.

  • Mix It Up: Reading the same thing over and over in the same manner is dull and tiresome. Switch topics every two hours and vary study methods to keep it interesting and stimulating.

  • Be Positive: A good attitude will carry you a long way. Say to yourself "I'm getting better every day" rather than "I can't do this." Persistence and faith in yourself are valuable qualities if you are keen on learning.

After restless nights of worrying, you finally get a call saying they would love to have you come in for an interview: now what? First, don't panic ! Finding an appropriate outfit can be intimidating, but with the help of Google it is possible. Second, the outfit you should wear is based on what type of position you are going for or what your potential company is. If it's a store like Macy's, for example, it would make sense for you to wear all black since that's the kind of uniform the employees wear.  If you're working in an office setting, then you should go either business casual or professional. When in doubt of what to wear, go with business casual! Here are a few images of what business casual and professional ou...

DEI & The Workplace

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), is a broad term that covers the issues of equality in the United States. It existed throughout the years, trying to advocate for equality amongst individuals regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Thi helps foster respect and equality in every sector of the society, ensuring that as long as a person is a citizen of the United States, they are allowed to receive the same benefits as others. In the workplace, DEI is very essential as it ensures that people are hired based on the fact that they meet the qualifications of the position they applied for, and not discriminated against by not qualifying them for unknown reasons even if they reach all other qualifications. Below are a few important reasons for DEI in the workplace:  1. The Workplace Should Reflect Today’s Emerging Workforce: Social change has historically often led to backlash, but that isn’t necessarily a good reason to retreat or pivot away from one’s DEI mandate. Today’s emerg...
