Dress for Success


            You only get one shot to make a first impression, so make your first impression count! How you dress for a job interview can change how the interviewer views you. Dressing appropriately shows that you are serious about the job you are seeking and would be a good representative of the company.

            When choosing an outfit for your interview, consider the job you are applying for and dress for the position you want them to see you in.

Business Professional Tips:

  Clothing:

    •   Men’s suits are to be worn with a tie
    •   Women’s skirts should be no more than a few inches above the knee, and always worn
         with pantyhose 

 Accessories:
     •  Accessories should be simple and subtle
     •  Sneakers are not appropriate footwear


 Grooming:
    •  Tattoos and Piercings should be covered or removed in a professional working environment
    •  Makeup should be subtle
    •  Nails should be well kept, no chipped polish





Business Casual Tips: 
    
    Clothing:
    •  Jeans are not appropriate business attire
    •  Sweatshirts and T-shirts are not appropriate business attire
    •  Sneakers are not appropriate footwear

At Kingsborough Community College (KCC) we have the right people (Career Office –C-102); we have the right resources available to our students. If you have not made up your mind on any career choice, that’s ok, but do you want to graduate from KCC and still don’t have a clue? So, the first step is over. You finished filling out the application for the job; listing all of your work experience, answering numerous questions about your work ethic on an online questionnaire, and you even polished up your hand dandy resume! After restless nights of worrying, you finally get a call saying they would love to have you come in for an interview: now what? First, don't panic ! Finding an appropriate outfit can be intimidating, but with the help of Google it is possible. Second, the outfit you should wear is based on what type of position you are going for or what your potential company is.
