Dress for Success

It’s often been stated that clothes make a person. Our choice of clothing carries out a certain message to people around us. For example, if one wears yoga pants to their work place, it’s not only unethical, but it also shows the people around the person that the said person isn’t serious about their job. Now, one can argue that it’s about the comfort level and that it shouldn’t determine how hard a person works, however, unfortunately we live in a society that judges us based on our physical appearance more than anything. No matter how talented or experienced you are, those two things will not always be factored in to get you the job you desire.

There’s more to just being smart at your job. One who is dressed in suit and tie is more likely to be taken seriously when compared to someone dressed in a T-shirt. Our appearance often speaks for us, it tells those around us who we are, and how we are as a person. Furthermore, it tells those around us as to how we view ourselves, the self image we hold. Our appearances not only make an impression on people, but they also contribute to the idea of how confident you are about yourself and what you can bring forth to your work place. If you’re confident, you’re more likely to be successful.

  1. "You cannot climb the ladder of success dressed in the costume of failure"; That has become my new favorite quote!! It states how important it is to take pride in your appearance for success.

After restless nights of worrying, you finally get a call saying they would love to have you come in for an interview: now what? First, don't panic ! Finding an appropriate outfit can be intimidating, but with the help of Google it is possible. Second, the outfit you should wear is based on what type of position you are going for or what your potential company is. When in doubt of what to wear, go with business casual! Here are a few images of what business casual and professional ou...

DEI & The Workplace

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), is a broad term that covers the issues of equality in the United States. It existed throughout the years, trying to advocate for equality amongst individuals regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Thi helps foster respect and equality in every sector of the society, ensuring that as long as a person is a citizen of the United States, they are allowed to receive the same benefits as others. In the workplace, DEI is very essential as it ensures that people are hired based on the fact that they meet the qualifications of the position they applied for, and not discriminated against by not qualifying them for unknown reasons even if they reach all other qualifications. Below are a few important reasons for DEI in the workplace:  1. The Workplace Should Reflect Today’s Emerging Workforce: Social change has historically often led to backlash, but that isn’t necessarily a good reason to retreat or pivot away from one’s DEI mandate.
