Job shadowing is observing a day in the life of someone else’s role. You may watch them complete their day-to-day tasks, attend meetings with them, and follow other vital parts of their work routine. The job shadowing experience can also look like where you can observe professionals in the working environment, how they communicate, interact, collaborate, and function. 



Job shadowing is a great opportunity for students because it offers a lot of benefits like skill development, networking opportunities, professional development and improving in communication and collaboration. Also, job shadowing is for everybody even with no job experience or with no diploma because this can help a lot with developing new skills in a working environment and help you out to connect with others and for better understanding. For example, job shadowing can help prepare you to experience different career paths to understand what it’s like working in the workplace and how to connect with professionals in the field.

Tips: Job Shadowing

Research: Think of some ideas that interests you that you would enjoy doing for your career and do some research in companies and professionals who align with your interests.

Finding Opportunities: You can Network to find professional networks that you

can connect with other people that are in the fields. Also, you can check on social

media and job boards to find opportunities.

Preparing: Always dress professionally to show respect to the company, arrive on

time, be prepared, and jot down some important notes.

Engagement and Participation: Engage in the conversations, offer assistance, and

always observe carefully to the details of the job like the daily routines,

interactions and problem-solving processes.

Express Gratitude: Send a thank you note or email the host and the company for

the opportunity and to express appreciation for the experience.
